It’s A Good Time To Be An Optimist

Photo by “My Life Through A Lens” on Unsplash

At this point being an optimist is probably a good thing to be.

I was listening to the news this week and as you know Georgia started to open up their economy.  Business owners and everyday people have a decision to make.

To open or not to open? To go or not to go?

But this one hair salon shop owner said something interesting.  She decided, that it was not worth it.  Life can’t be replaced.  I can totally understand that viewpoint, in fact, I agree. Life is fragile.

But here’s the interesting thing that she said…

”I need to work, I need to pay my bills, but it’s just not worth it.  I’ve had to start over before and I’ll be able to start over again.  And each time I started over it was better than the last time.”

As I heard her say this it made me think about two qualities that she exhibited, grit and optimism.

I think we all need that, especially a little optimism.

Dr. Deepak Chopra’s definition is…

“The true definition of an optimist is someone that is very aware and mindful of all the setbacks and roadblocks and less-than-ideal things that happen in their life. The caveat is that they are just aware that those things are temporary, and they have the ability to overcome them.”

Just think what it takes to make it in a normal society, and now think about what it will take to make it today’s new economy.  Everyone will need to be optimistic because it can get worst but you have to believe that if we’re smart and use a little wisdom it will hurt for a while, but things will get better.

There’s just no room for the pessimists.

I was reading an amazing post by Ryan Holiday, and it just reminded me of what it’s going to take for us all.  He says, “ creating anything of consequence or magnitude requires deliberate, incremental and consistent work”

We’re simply going to have to get back to work and rebuild, but what was normal may not be what we have on the other side of the door.

So while we may not know exactly what the future holds, regardless of what happens we will rebuild, so this is our call to all of the optimists. Those that see the glass half full.

The time is now!

Long Live Coffee!

As a coffee lover, it’s always a good thing to run across research that suggests the benefits of drinking coffee.  A few years ago, I would typically make my coffee using a Keurig, but somewhere along the way, I decided to try to grind and brew my own coffee.  I thought it was simple enough to boil some water and filter the grinds through a filter right into the cup.  Apparently this is the best way to brew your coffee, and just think not only does it give you an energy boost but as a coffee drinker you live longer!!

In the spirit of optimism, mental health, and overall health, at this point it’s no surprise that we should all workout, but how do you cope when life has been altered and turned upside down?  Research says that regularly working out (approximately 4 times a week), lowers depression and negative feelings by 35%.
